Rohnert Park 2040 General Plan

City Manager Posted on August 12, 2025

The City of Rohnert Park has released the Public Review Draft of the 2040 General Plan for community review.

What is it?
The General Plan is the City’s long-range policy document that guides decisions about land use, housing, transportation, parks, public services, environmental protection, and economic development. It acts as a blueprint for how the City will grow and change through the year 2040.

Why is it important?
California law requires every city to have a General Plan. The last Rohnert Park update was in 2000. Since then, state laws, community needs, and local priorities have changed. The 2040 General Plan incorporates these changes, addresses new issues like climate change and online retail impacts, and sets goals for a safe, sustainable, and economically healthy future.

Who uses it?
City Council, Planning Commission, City staff, developers, businesses, and residents use the General Plan to guide projects, programs, and investments.

When and how can you participate?
The Public Review Draft is available now for comment. Community members can read the document and provide feedback before it goes to the Planning Commission and City Council for adoption.
