We are thrilled to express our deepest gratitude to Senator Mike McGuire and Senator Christopher Cabaldon , along with Assembly Members Assemblymember Damon Connolly and Assemblymember Chris Rogers, for their instrumental leadership in securing a historic $45 million in one-time funding for Sonoma State University.
This critical investment will not only stabilize the University during a pivotal time, but will also expand opportunities for students and strengthen our regional workforce. Of particular note, $16 million will support the expansion of the nursing program—an essential step in addressing the healthcare needs of our communities. An additional $5 million will build out a comprehensive career center, $5 million will establish a data science program, and $9 million will be dedicated to increasing enrollment. Another $8 million will bolster the University’s National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II Athletics programs over the next three years.
As the Mayors of Rohnert Park and City of Cotati—cities honored to partner with Sonoma State University—we proudly celebrate this transformative victory for students, educators, and the entire North Bay region. This milestone reflects our shared commitment to advancing education, opportunity, and community well-being. We thank our state legislators for recognizing the profound role SSU plays in driving opportunity, innovation, and quality of life in our region.
